Summer time has started, and everyone enjoyed the warm climate last week.

Sakura festival was held on Saturday the 7th at the Amsterdamse Bos, which was a huge success with a lot of people with great performances.

The theme of Japanese conversation on the 6th was "Things I like about the Netherlands, things I find a little strange about the Netherlands."

The last time we talked about Japan, so this time we looked at the Netherlands.

Roads in the Netherlands are wide and with 'fietspad (bicycle road)', it is very safe and easy to drive cars and cycle.

On the other side, there are many bicycles and the country's image is 'bicycles', car roads are very crowded everyday especially in the mornings and evenings.

Another image of the Netherlands is 'flower' (keukenhof is open now!), and you can get fresh flowers at reasonable prices.

A non-Japanese member talked about how she is happy being able to purchase fresh (not frozen) chikens in supermarkets, which is unlikely in her country of origin.

A Dutch member said that she realised how Dutch people cherish freedom, when she went to Japan to study.

The Nethelands is a country with high ranking of feeling of happiness. Maybe these free and natural environment are affecting how people feel about their lives.

Our next Japanese conversation will be held on Friday 20th April.
